The big news this weekend was an 800 acre wildfire that blazed up late Friday afternoon a few miles from here and had local residents scrambling to look for their prize possessions. I heard a horn beeping in my driveway around 5:00 and looked out to find a woman who was going from house to house warning people. “There’s a wildfire behind your house! It’s huge!” she yelled. It was windy and bright, and the flames were shooting 200 feet in the air, according to the NM, but the fire crews, the retardant bombers, and the weather kept it under control and it is now declared under control. Not a very relaxing way to start the weekend. Meanwhile, there was a fire near downtown that burned through some lots near houses.
